Save Me v The Millionaire Waltz

The QWC quarterfinals kicked off with Jazz/Game/Flash Group E winner Save Me playing A Day At The Races deep-cut The Millionaire Waltz. Once again the flush Freddie serenade proved its worth via a 58-46 win – there was no salvation for Save Me.

The March Of The Black Queen v Somebody To Love

Two of the top three seeds met in the second quarterfinal as black-hearted, fingernailed and toed MOTBQ faced up to gospel-flavoured good guy Somebody To Love. Despite expecting the tightest of matches there was a clear victory for Somebody To Love as the Dark Side lost out 66-38.   

The Millionaire Waltz will now take on Somebody To Love in the first QWC semi-final on Thursday 12 Dec.

Innuendo v The Show Must Go On

The only remaining non-70’s songs paired up as the first and final tracks from the Innuendo album met in the third quarterfinal. Despite debuting no.1 in the UK charts as the album’s lead single, the proggy, flamenco-flourished Innuendo lost out 63-35 to emotionally-charged epitaph The Show Must Go On.

Spread Your Wings v Bohemian Rhapsody

The final QWC quarterfinal saw sixth and second seeds squaring up, a barely Top 40 chart botherer against the double no.1 monster Bo Rhap. Unsurprisingly, Beelzebub came up with the best tune via a 69-29 victory for Bohemian Rhapsody, calling last orders down at The Emerald Bar in the process.

Bohemian Rhapsody is now set for a semi-final showdown with The Show Must Go On on Friday 13 Dec.
