QWC Finals Group Stage Round 3 - 16 And Life Confirmed

NOV 30 - Aaron Mullan

QWC Group Stages Round 3 Sat 23 – Tue 26 November

Group A

It started out so well…and so Group A finished for Save Me, three for three via a 61-46 victory over The Fairy Feller’s Master-Stroke. Despite the axe swinging on the Queen II  track, it still progressed alongside Save Me. The Prophet’s Song and I Want It All played out the Group A dead rubber, the seer seeing out a 66-41 victory…no miracles here.

Group B

Innuendo completed a clean sweep in Group B, giving Crazy Little Thing Called Love a leathering 78-29. Death On Two Legs (Dedicated to…) clipped the wings of Dragon Attack (61-46) and secured a knockout place alongside Innuendo from Group B.

Group C

Perfumed from Paris, Killer Queen came up smelling of roses again defeating Now I’m Here (80-23) to top Group C. Love Of My Life pulled the plug on I Want To Break Free (67-36) and clinched the runner-up spot in the process.

Group D

The Show Must Go On, smile staying on, topped Group D via a 77-26 win over Brighton Rock. Elsewhere, May masterpiece It’s Late lost out by a single vote to The Millionaire Waltz (51-52), TMW cashing in on the second knockout place as a result.

Group E

March Of The Black Queen completed the black parade to top spot by calling out Liar (81-22). Despite this reverse Liar stayed true and continued to the knockout stages as Queen I’s only representative. Under Pressure didn’t get one more chance, despite defeating Stone Cold Crazy 58-45, both songs eliminated at the group stage.

Group F

Spread Your Wings feathered its nest again in Group F via a 56-47 win over Don’t Stop Me Now. Both songs hit the heights though, qualifying through to the knockout stage. We Are The Champions finally took a bow by seeing off Radio Ga Ga (61-42) but both tracks now bow out of the competition.

Group G

Predictably, Another One Bit The Dust (4-90) as Somebody To Love topped Group G and continued as QWC competition favourite. Fat Bottomed Girls couldn’t outweigh One Vision, yet the 47-47 draw was enough to take the blue-eyes floozy through to the knockout stage.

Group H

Bohemian Rhapsody triggered another convincing win victory (78-16 over Hammer To Fall), ensuring Group H top spot for the quintessential Queen track. Meantime, These Are The Days Of Our Lives saw to it that dirty old Great King Rat finally got his comeuppance (49-45) and in doing so sentimentality secured second spot in Group H.

So that’s the group stages completed, we’re down to our final 16 Queen songs…let the knockout matches commence!
