NOV 26 - Aaron Mullan

QWC Group Stages Round 2 Tue 19 – Fri 22 November

Group A

Save Me continued to face this life alone at the top of Group A via a convincing 71-30 win over I Want It Alone. However, portents of doom were obvious for The Prophet’s Song as it lost out to The Fairy Feller’s Master Stroke (42-59).

Group B

Group B leader Death On Two Legs (Dedicated to…) had it’s hide tanned by third seed Innuendo (45-56) whilst Dragon Attack swooped to a 60-41victory over Crazy Little Thing Called Love (63-45). The final group game will now see a shoot-off between Dragon Attack and Death On Two Legs (Dedicated to…) for what is likely to be a coveted second qualifying place behind Innuendo.

Group C

Killer Queen can almost crack open the Moet & Chandon to celebrate qualifying from Group C, courtesy of a thumping 93-13 win over I Want To Break Free. Love Of My Life was pleased to bring back a shot at the knockout stages via a tight win over Now I’m Here. I Want To Break Free will now face off with LOML for the runner-up spot.

Group D

Group D third seed The Show Must Go On endured with a narrow 55-51 victory over group favourite The Millionaire Waltz. Meanwhile, It’s Late prevailed 69-37 against Brighton Rock, setting up another qualifying play-off between It’s Late and The Millionaire Waltz.

Group E

March Of The Black Queen continued its inexorable progress to the knockout stages as Under Pressure felt the force of the darkside (82-25). Liar made it a Queen I/II one-two, knocking out Stone Cold Crazy 75-32. The Mercury masterpieces will now match up for top spot in Group E.

Group F

Spread Your Wings continued to soar in Group F, Radio Ga Ga this time being swept up by Sammy’s song (70-37). The battle of the greatest hits saw Don’t Stop Me Now continuing to have a good time by edging out We Are The Champions 57-50 and confirming a qualifying place in the process.

Group G

Somebody To Love spanked Fat Bottomed Girls 95-10, whilst Another One Bites The Dust downed One Vision 61-44. With STL all but confirmed in first place, each of the other songs still have a chance to qualify where vote difference may prove crucial.

Group H

Bohemian Rhapsody comfortably dispatched These Are The days Of Our Lives (86-19), confirming its top seed status. Meanwhile, Great King Rat picked up a few more disciples, evidenced by a 58-47 victory over Hammer To Fall. The grimy Gemini will now play These Are The days Of Our Lives for what is likely to be the final knockout spot.
