Space/Works/Magic – Group A

Week 11 fixtures commenced with old friend Radio Ga Ga edging out Who Wants To Live Forever (49-41) – a result that sees the Taylor tune odds on to top the charts in SWM Grp A. Elsewhere Cool Cat purred to victory over Calling All Girls (61-29) to maintain slim hopes of clawing back second place from encumbent WWTLF. Rounding off the group, Pain Is So Close To Pleasure again suffered defeat (four for four losses) as Action This Day got the power (60-30).

Space/Works/Magic – Group B

Under Pressure felt none and threw a spanner in the works for Machines (or “Back To Humans”), courtesy of a 67-23 win. Meantime, A Kind Of Magic trounced Life is Real (84-6) and Gimme The Prize (Kurgan’s Theme) cut down the (headless?) Body Language (73-17). With Under pressure set to claim the qualifying spot, can Gimme The Prize overhaul A Kind Of Magic via their upcoming final showdown?

Space/Works/Magic – Group C

I Want To Break Free again hoovered up the opposition, defeating Don’t Lose Your Head this time around (84-5). Princes Of The Universe had another epic win, extinguishing the chances of Put Out The Fire (81-8). Man On The Prowl crept up to third place with victory over Back Chat (49-40), but slim hopes of qualification for MOTP and POTU now rest on a final win coupled with a Back Chat somehow beating IWTBF.

Space/Works/Magic – Group D

Hammer To Fall had another thumping win (83-6 over Friends Will Be Friends) and is clear favourite to nail down the SWM Grp D qualifying place. However, Keep Passing The Open Windows (52-37 win over Dancer) and Las Palabras de Amor (55-34 success over One Year Of Love) retain mathematical hopes of qualification as they both sit on 9pts and play each other in the last round of group games.

Space/Works/Magic – Group E

Routine victories for One Vision (80-9 against Staying Power) and Tear It Up (72-17 v Is This The World We Created..?) has resulted in the tightest of SWM groups as three tracks from The Works are separated by just a single point going into the final group match-ups.

Miracle/Innuendo/MIH – Group A

Innuendo (83-3 v My Life Has Been Saved) and The Invisible Man (55-31 v Ride The Wild Wind) officially secured the two qualifying spots in MIM Grp A and will now fight for the glory of top spot in the final group round. Elsewhere I Can’t Live With You is now favourite for mid-table mediocrity, well and truly pooping Party (71-15).

Miracle/Innuendo/MIH – Group B

In MIM Grp B The Show Must Go On’s smile still stayed on by defeated Scandal (84-2) and will now top the group. Things are much more interesting for the second play-off place with Let Me Live  (despite a 45-41 loss to Made In Heaven), Scandal and Made In Heaven all in with a shout of runner up spot. Scandal may have the best opportunity to prove our intrepid SPR hosts wrong, taking on bottom placed My Baby Does Me (even beaten by old tug Khashoggi’s Ship 54-32).

Miracle/Innuendo/MIH – Group C

Breakthru (rather than curiosity) killed the cat (83-3 v Delilah) and powered to top spot in the process. Elsewhere, Headlong pitched up to second place (76-10 v All God’s People), but still has work to do to claim the second play-off place, needing a final win over Mother Love to see off Too Much Love Will Kill You and Mother Love (who played out a 43-43 draw). Time will tell if sentimentality shines and Freddie’s final vocal wins through…
